Thyroid Conditions

The thyroid gland is a small butterfly-shaped organ at the front of the neck. It produces thyroid hormones, which affect metabolic processes throughout the body. When the thyroid is not functioning properly, it produces many different symptoms.

Overactive Thyroid

Some people have an overactive thyroid, or hyperthyroid; this can cause heart racing and palpitations, sweating, anxiety, fatigue and insomnia, loose stools, and more.

Underactive Thyroid

More commonly, an underactive thyroid can cause symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, depression, brain fog, constipation, and cold intolerance. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune thyroid condition called Hashimoto’s, where the body’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland and decreases its function.

If you have an underactive thyroid or Hashimoto’s, management can include thyroid medication to supplement your body’s own production of thyroid hormone, reducing your body’s immune activity against itself to reduce further damage, and nutrient and herbal strategies to improve and optimize thyroid function so you feel great.
